Our advisors and staff include veterans of industry, academia, and government research, with expertise in information visualization, human-computer interaction, machine learning, data mining, and software engineering. We have designed everything from web interfaces to analysis applications for neuroscience. Everyone understands the motivation for visualization, but there is a science behind designing effective interfaces that exploit human perception to reveal new insights. Our goal is to enable users to interact with interfaces that guide a variety of underlying analysis algorithms: this approach makes powerful analysis more accessible while leveraging the human user’s intuition, visual processing abilities, and contextual knowledge of their own needs.

Leadership

Dr. John T Langton
President and Principal Scientist

John directs business strategies and research and development at VisiTrend. He has an extensive research background and a wealth of experience applying it to real-world problems in both the government and private sectors. His research interests include information visualization, human-computer interaction, collaborative software, artificial intelligence, simulation, and machine learning. His visual analytics solutions are used to investigate scientific data sets at Brandeis University, Emory University and a number of international institutions. His government solutions include advanced command and control systems for data analysis, planning, and optimization. John actively transitions these cutting edge technologies to VisiTrend’s commercial offerings to help our customers glean greater value from their data. Prior to founding VisiTrend, John served as Associate Scientist at Charles River Analytics (CRA). While there, he was Principal Investigator (PI) for several government projects funded through the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) programs of multiple DoD agencies. As PI, he lead research and development, architected complex decision support solutions, and spearheaded multiple technology transition and commercialization efforts. Prior to CRA, John architected CRM solutions for Boston Trade International. He has consulted for several firms and taught classes at Brandeis University. He holds a pending patent for Abstract Information Layers and has several peer reviewed publications. John holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brandeis University.

Dr. Larry Bookman
Consulting Scientist and Business Adviser

Larry contributes to both business strategies and research and development at VisiTrend. He has over 20 years of experience in applying data mining technologies and statistics to solve business problems in the financial, telecommunications, and leasing industries. Larry has delivered analytic solutions to dozens of companies, including credit risk evaluations, consumer fraud, customer segmentations, customer profitability analyses, customer attrition, sales forecasting, customer loyalty analyses, market basket analyses, and product cross-sell modeling. His credit risk solutions have enabled several of the largest banks and telecommunications companies to save over $200 million from making bad loans and incurring bad debt. Larry’s background includes the founding of three companies and he is a consultant, adviser and board member to both public and private companies. He holds two patents (data transactional semantics, Oct 2004, June 2008), has two pending patents (value-based ratings and communications brokering) and has published two books on Artificial Intelligence and over thirty conference papers. Larry holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brandeis University.

Ms. Tracey Dodenhoff
Business Adviser

Tracey contributes to business development, technology transition and commercialization efforts at VisiTrend. She leads the systematic commercialization of high-potential innovations through her holding company, Vanguard Technologies, LLC. Through rigorous market analysis, she identifies early stage innovations that address specific market-driven needs, maps rapid revenue generation and optimal market entry strategies, secures funding and resources, and executes product launches and roll-outs. Fortifying its global launch and innovation sourcing capabilities in 2010, Tracey established Vanguard Technologies offices in Dubai, Liverpool, Shanghai and Toronto. Tracey is founder or co-founder of 7 start-ups in the medical, industrial and consumer products industries. In addition to her entrepreneurial pursuits, Tracey consults both through Vanguard Technologies and for yet2.com, the world’s largest technology broker and open-innovation service provider. In her role as consultant, she spearheads the identification and evaluation of high-potential opportunities, as well as facilitating the spin-out and or licensing of none-core intellectual property. Tracey has extensive experience in, product development and manufacturing, business development and venture funding. Tracey holds an MBA from Babson College, F.W. Olin Graduate Business School, a Master of Industrial Design from the Pratt Institute, and a B.S. in Industrial Technology from Rhode Island College.

Dr. Johann Ari Larusson
Senior Scientist and Software Engineer

Johann leads research and development of VisiTrend’s collaborative technology solutions. His research interests include computer-supported collaborative learning, computer-supported cooperative work, cognitive science and human-computer interaction. For the last 8 years, Johann has architected and engineered a number of critical and complex software solutions including anti-terrorism CCTV surveillance systems (for Peocon Ltd.), data integrity validation systems for air traffic control (ATC) data (for Tern Systems Inc.) and communication protocols and applications for intra-company data distribution, modi cation and collaboration (for Kaupthing Bank, now Arion Bank). He has several peer reviewed and award winning publications. Johann holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Brandeis University.
